Zambia Analytics

The Corridor Analytics Landing Page

The Cross-Border Trade Analytics, an interrogation of the Zambia Cross-Border Trade Database and so to statistically analyse what goods are moving through Zambia’s main borders. This analysis can be done by export, import and transit cargo, category of cargo (by HS Chapter, Heading or Sub-Heading); by value (in ZMW) and nett weight (kg or tons) of the goods; by mode of transport; and by country of origin and destination for 2022, 2023 and 2024.

The Logistics Transport Infrastructure Map give details on the Transport and Transit Corridors that link Zambia to sea ports as well as detailed information on Zambia’s border posts on these Transport and Transit Corridors.

The Corridor Cost Calculator allows you to determine the costs incurred in using sections of each corridor, from source to destination. This is different to the price that will be charged by a freight forwarder or transporter as it does not take account of risk costing or any profit.

The Freight Projections page gives forecasts of freight movements and transport infrastructure use for 2025 and 2050. This model is based on the Regional African Freight Model (RAFM) that was originally developed by the Wits Innovation Centre, in South Africa in 2021 and uses the same assumptions about economic and sectoral growth rates as well as the 2019 database.

The Productive Sector Analytics Landing Page

The Agriculture page (currently under construction), an analysis of inter-regional movements of maize, wheat and soya; fertiliser; and wheat and maize flour.

The Mining page, a simulation of the effects of increases or decreases of production of metals and concentrates from the mine, inter-mine movements, and imported inputs coming into the mine sites.

The Manufacture page (currently under construction), an analysis of movements within Zambia, and exports, of manufactured products such as cement, iron and steel and fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs).

Zambia Logistics

The Zambia Transport Logistics Masterplan, either by Chapter or the full report can be downloaded. A summary in the form of a Power Point presentation, saved as a pdf file, can also be downloaded,

The Transport Related Zambia Masterplans and Strategies page allows downloads of other Zambia transport masterplans and transport and trade reference documents.

The Project Summaries page (currently under construction) allows downloads of Project information Memoranda (PIMs) of transport logistics related projects in Zambia under various stages of preparation, from concept stage to financial close.

Trade Facilitation

The Digitising Cross-Border Trade page outlines a project which would, through digitising trade facilitation and customs procedures along a corridor, significantly improve the performance of the Transport and Transit Corridor, including much faster turn-around times and reduced costs.

The Digitising Small-Scale Cross-Border Trade outlines an approach to digitising small-scall cross-border trade, which would have the dual benefits of measuring small-scale cross-border trade and make small scale cross-border trade safer and more efficient, especially for women small-scale traders.
